Edward B. du Pont (1934-2017) was vice president of the Wilmington Trust Company, served on numerous boards of directors, and was descended from the founders of E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, a chemical company more commonly referred to as the DuPont Company. This small collection documents Edward B. du Pont's service on the boards of directors for the DuPont Company, Atlantic Aviation, and the Hagley Museum and Library, as well as the board of trustees for the University of Delaware, primarily through group portraits. His work for the DuPont Company is most heavily represented. The collection is arranged chronologically. The majority of images date from 1977 to 2003.

Edward Henry Kemp (1868-1948) and Josephine A. Kemp (1868-1941) were commercial photographers and traveling lecturers. The Kemps were best known for their photographic and motion picture travelogues, as well as their work in Camera Craft magazine. In 1912, the Chamber of Commerce invited its members to join an excursion to the Isthmus of Panama, with the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce being the guide in charge of the trip and planning. The San Francisco Chamber chartered the SS Sonoma of the Oceanic Steamship Company from April 25, 1912, to return on May 21, 1912. The album is a travelogue of the SS Sonoma voyage from San Francisco to the construction site of the Panama Canal locks. The images show views of railroad construction, dredges, street views of Balboa, Panama la Vieja, bull fights, and Old Panama City. The album itself does not contain either Kemp's name or other identifying information, however, three of the photographs in the album match photographs that have been positively identified as being taken by the Kemps.

Edward James Shimer Seal (1896-1955) was a farmer and photographer in Chester County, Pennsylvania. This collection contains over 300 photograph prints taken primarily by Seal of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, during the first half of the twentieth century. Many of these images offer a glimpse into family and town life in Chadds Ford and Wilmington, Delaware, during the 1920s and 1930s, featuring Seal family members, friends, neighbors, and employees. Other subjects include the 1939 World's Fair in New York, the artists N.C. and Andrew Wyeth, and local bridges and roads.

Edward M. Harrington (1866-1933) was a chemist and expert on blasting cap design. He held several positions at the Aetna Powder Company, eventually becoming superintendent of the dynamite works at Aetna, Indiana. Harrington then went on to work for the DuPont Company at various plants in the Operating Department until his retirement in 1921. Images in this collection are of dynamite and other explosive plants, including Aetna Powder Company plants in Newport, Rhode Island (electric blasting caps) and Aetna, Indiana, and DuPont Company plants in Repauno, New Jersey; Hopwell, Virginia, and many other locations. Photographs show buildings, office and plant interiors, many with workers, employee groups, housing, and recreation.

Edward “Ned” A. Hodge (1896-1978) was the Vice-President of the Pusey & Jones Corp. in charge of engineering and shipbuilding. This small collection consists primarily of photographs showing the exteriors of ships. There are two books which document ship voyages showing photographs alongside text.

The Louviers dynamite works began production in 1908 and provided explosives primarily for mines in the region. The panoramic photograph shows a view of the DuPont Company dynamite works at Louviers, Colorado, including the magazine area, powder line, and overall view.

The Jackson Laboratory and the Technical Laboratory was established by E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company at its Deepwater, New Jersey, in 1917 and 1920 respectively to manufacture and research dyes. This collection consists of two panoramic photographs of exteriors of the laboratories.

The Neoprene B plant was located at DuPont's Deepwater Point, New Jersey site, which was later named the Chambers Works. This collection consists of three panoramic photographs showing the construction of the Neoprene B plant.

The War Department of the United States Government contracted with the DuPont Company to build and run a smokeless powder plant called the Old Hickory plant on the Cumberland River near Nashville, Tennessee during World War I. These panoramic photographs show overall views of DuPont Company's Old Hickory smokeless powder plant, also views of exterior and interior details.

The DuPont Company acquired a site on the York River in Virginia on which they planned to build a dynamite plant. The U.S. Government took over the property in 1918 and got the DuPont Company to build a shell loading plant instead. These three panoramic photographs show overall views of the shell loading plant at Penniman, Virginia during World War I.

In 1902 the DuPont Company acquired the Smith Electric Fuze Company and some other properties in the Pompton Lakes, New Jersey area. DuPont continued the manufacture of fuses, blasting caps, and other blasting supplies at the plant, adding a shell plant and other facilities. One panoramic photograph shows an overview of the DuPont Company plant at Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, 1918, and the other is a group portrait of staff, August 25, 1943.

In 1918, the company opened an additional plant in Racine, Wisconsin to increase the production of smokeless powder to meet the growing demand in order to support the war effort. This panoramic photograph shows a group of engineers outside of the plant.

In 1927 the DuPont Company constructed a plant to manufacture viscose rayon. This panoramic photograph depicts an overview of the DuPont Company's Spruance Plant in Richmond, Virginia.

Gunpowder manufactured on the Brandywine in Wilmington, Delaware and sold through dealers in Philadelphia, New York City and Boston.

The DuPont Company constructed a dye works at Deepwater Point, New Jersey (also called just Deepwater, New Jersey) during World War I to enter the market for dyes left vacant by Germany's absence. This collection consists of fifteen panomaric photographs of views of the Deepwater Point, New Jersey dye works of the DuPont Company, including ground before building started, building exteriors, and a group portrait of employees of the Jackson Laboratory.

The DuPont Company's Executive Committee established the Experimental Station, a research facility located on the banks of the Brandywine Creek across from DuPont's first black powder works. The panoramic photograph provides an overview of the DuPont Company Experimental Station and Country Club, outside of Wilmington, Delaware. It shows temporary structures and construction for expansion of the Experimental Station.

The DuPont Company purchased a site near City Point, Virginia on the James River in 1912 in order to build a dynamite plant located closer to the southern market. The panoramic photographs show exteriors of the plant, views of the workers' housing, the town (including the African American section), and a photograph of the Hopewell China Corporation, a post-war reuse of one of the facilities.

In 1902, DuPont took control of Laflin & Rand, including the Haskell Works. Infallible and Ballistite powders were manufactured there. The works played an important role in smokeless powder production during World War I. The panoramic photographs depict views of the Du Pont Company's smokeless powder works in Haskell, New Jersey and the workers village nearby.

In 1904 the DuPont Company purchased the International Smokeless Powder and Chemical Company, which was then producing smokeless powder and nitrocellulose products in their plant in Parlin, New Jersey. This collection consists of seven panormaic photographs that show views of the Parlin, New Jersey plant, including views of production facilities and worker housing.

E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company Repauno Works manufactured high explosive dynamite. The company began as the Repauno Chemical Company on June 7, 1880, by Lammot du Pont (1831-1884), a chemist working for the family business, E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, a chemical company which originally produced gunpowder. The panoramic photographs show two views of the dynamite works and workers village at the DuPont Company's Repauno Works.

While cellophane was invented in Switzerland, it was not until DuPont acquired the patent in 1923 that allowed DuPont scientist William Hale Charch (1898-1958) to improve it so that it was impervious to water vapor. DuPont produced cellophane until 1986. This collection consists of undated photographs, one saleman's album, and one poster that all relate to cellophane packaging.

Duco was a durable, quick-drying lacquer used for appliances. It was the standard finish for GM vehicles. Dulux was glossier, which made it more popular than Duco. Lucite paint was introduced in the 1950s and was less expensive and more durable than its predecessors. This small collection consists of one album of photographs of finishes facilities (i.e., Refinish Service Warehouses/wholesale) and retail paint stores.

In 1892 it produced its first guncotton, and then the first smokeless powder. This collection consists of twenty panoramic photographs of Carney's Point smokeless powder plant, including exteriors of various buildings and groups of workers.

In 1941, the Martinsville Plant opened in Martinsville, Virginia, as DuPont's second nylon hosiery manufacturing plant. This small collection consists primarily of aerial and exterior photographs of the Martinsville Plant from the factory's construction in 1940 to 1996, two years before its closing.

Eileen Gray (1878-1976) is considered one of the most important and influential furniture designers and architects of the early twentieth century, inspiring both modernism and Art Deco movements. She was among the vanguard of the International Style in her use and interpretation of geometric forms and industrially produced materials. This collection is a boxed set of postcard-size reproductions of black and white photographs of houses, rooms, and objects designed by her.

Frederic G. Cooper (1883-1962) was an honorary member of the Society of Illustrators. He worked for New York Edison from 1905 to 1926. These are miniature souvenir posters for the Electrical Exposition and Motor Shows sponsored by the New York Edison Company.

Eleuthère Irénée du Pont (1921-1994) was a descendant of Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours (1739-1817) who founded the E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company with his son Eleuthère Irénée du Pont (1771-1834) in 1802. This collection consists of graphic materials including a photographic print of Eleuthère Irénée du Pont (1921-1994), booklets, a copy of a photographic print of Johan Andreas Philip Ludwig (1753-1803), the Ludwig family crest and a genealogy of the Pelleport family.

Between 1802 and 1921, Eleutherian Mills was a gunpowder mill site used for the manufacture of explosives by the du Pont family business, which was founded by Éleuthère Irénée "E.I." du Pont (1771–1834). Longwood Gardens is a series of formal display gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, that was developed by Pierre S. du Pont (1870-1954), a descendent of E.I. du Pont. From 1802 to 1921, Eleutherian Mills was a gunpowder mill site used for the manufacture of explosives by the duPont family business. The name also refers to the house and gardens on the hill above the mills, which was the first duPont family home in America. This collections contains slides and color snapshot photographs of the garden at Eleutherian Mills. Also included is an 8 mm. home movie.

Ellis Leroy "Lee" Hawk, Jr. (1926-2012) was a chemical engineer with Hercules Inc., and later the engineering director at Himont. He was involved in establishing polypropylene plants all over the world during the 1950s through the 1980s. This small collection consists of a scrapbook of photographs showing plant construction and a travel memoir written by Hawk about his career in the chemical industry. The memoir provides context for the scrapbook and an interesting portrait of an American businessman during the early stages of globalization.

Elmer A. Sperry (1860-1930) was an electrical engineer who established the Electric Light, Motor, and Car Brake Company in 1883 and then founded the Sperry Electric Mining Machine Company in 1886. After selling his patents to General Electric, he went to work for the company as a consultant. This collection includes original materials, as well as copy work from other sources and images which show Sperry's inventions; there is some ephemera, family photos, employees, and views of the Sperry Company's Brooklyn drafting rooms.

Edith N. McConnell (1880-1968) was a confectioner and caterer in Wilmington, Delaware from the 1920s through the 1950s. This small collection consists of photographs of wedding cakes, table settings, and restaurant interiors in Wilmington and Newark, Delaware, mostly dating from around 1945.

Epcot, the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, opened in 1982. It was conceived by Walt Disney to "take its cue from the new ideas and new technologies that are now emerging from the creative centers of American industry." This booklet is a guide to the attractions at Future World and the World Showcase at the EPCOT Center in Florida. It also includes advertising matter for Eastman Kodak Company disc and instant cameras. Eastman Kodak Company, commonly known as Kodak, is best known for photographic film products, which it produced throughout most of its history. In 1982, Kodak launched the Kodak Disc film format for consumer cameras

The Erie City Iron Works in Erie, Pennsylvania, was a major manufacturer of boilers, stationary and portable engines, and machinery for sawmills and steam riveting. These are five reproductions of nineteenth century photographs from the Erie City Iron Works. One is an exterior of the plant. The four others are posed photographs of employee groups.

Ernest Dichter (1907-1991) was one of the pioneers in consumer motivational research. He started his own consulting business in 1946. It was incorporated in New York as the Institute for Research in Mass Motivations, Inc. in 1952 and renamed the Institute for Motivational Research, Inc. in 1955. This collection consists of photographs, negatives, slides, contact sheets, and audio cassettes.

Ernest du Pont (1880-1944) and his elder brother Francis Irenee du Pont (1873-1942) founded the U.S.F. Powder Company in 1919, which produced flashless cannon powder. This item is a cabinet card photograph of Ernest du Pont (1880-1944) as a young child.

Eugene Blery (1805-1887) was a French artist, engraver and lithographer. This collection contains two etchings of pastoral views of Nemours in Normany, France. One depicts the French ancestral home of the du Pont family.

Remington Arms Company is one of the oldest American manufacturer of firearms and ammunition the largest producer of shotguns and rifles in the United States. This film is a documentary short on target shooting, featuring a demonstration by expert marksmen.

The DuPont Experimental Station is a large industrial research facility founded in 1903; focused on chemistry research. This collection consists primarily of group photographs of new employees in the Central Research Department at DuPont's Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware for the years 1922 to 1959. All individuals pictured are identified.

The Belin plant in Moosic, Pennsylvania was built by the DuPont Company in 1908 for the production of black powder, which it was doing by 1912. This collection consists of photographs of the aftermath of an explosion that occurred there on August 1, 1930.

The Paris Colonial Exposition was a six month exhibit held outside of Paris, France in 1931 displaying the culture and resources of the colonial possessions of France. Opening May 6, 1931, the exhibition was visited by an estimated crowd of seven to nine million people. This collection includes twenty eight photographs of architectural renderings of buildings at the exposition, two photographs of models of buildings, six photographs of the actual buildings (some under construction), and one portrait photograph of M. Marcel Oliver (circa 1880s-1940s), an organizer of the event and former Governor-General of Madagascar. Each photograph is stamped on the back and has the name of the architect responsible.

Exposition Internationale of 1937, was held in Paris, France from 25 May to 25 November. The full title of the exhibition was, Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne, which translates to the International Exposition of Art and Technology in Modern Life. The viewbook contains ten postcards of views of the Exposition Internationale held in Paris in 1937. These show both aerial views and images of the exteriors of buildings

This collection consists of thirty-five glass negatives and one box. It documents locations in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Fairmount Park system. While the photographer is unidentified, and the images are undated and unlabeled, most images appear to depict Wissahickon Valley Park, historically part of the Fairmount Park system.
